I live in Delaware, and just like many parts of the country, driving at night in a sweet ride has its dangers. I need to get my headlight, hood, left front corner panel, and door panel all replaced. Not that bad actually, considering i only had about 1 second to respond. The shop says that once she gets in, scheduled for today, that she will be out in roughly ten days. I hope not toooo roughly... Oh well, just letting everybody know not to turn a blind eye to nature This is the first ever time i've been involved in something that could even be remotely called an accident, and i've only had my 02 for two weeks before the incident;( Cya l8r

P Deer is spelled deer, not dear...... DA...... Peace all

 

Night driving in areas that have large deer populations create a lot of apprehension in me. I like to drive fast, but to see one of those in the way is a scary thought. Especially in the autumn and spring. Just remember, if you see one, there will be others nearby. Let's be careful out there.

 

I'm sorry. I just noticed you hit a "dear" . That's totally different. Was she real close???

 

Very funny;0) I caught my mistake, take it easy on me.....=) To be honest, i did feel pretty bad about it!!! I jumped out of my car to check on the deer, and it was still alive. The poor thing wouldn't let me move it, and ended up getting hit five more times. If only it hadn't tried to knock the hell outta me when i tried to move it of the road. If only... It wasn't til the cops came to file a report that i had noticed how bad the damage really was. Pretty depressing all around.

I'm sorry. I have only killed one animal in my 33 years of driving. A rabbit ran across the road two years ago and it was just too late for me to react with my Explorer. I felt bad about it for quite some time. I try to do whatever I can to avoid hitting anything. Now that I have the S2000, I have nightmares of what would happen if I hit a deer. I'm sorry about the damage to your car and hope everything is just like new when you pick it up.
Oh yeah, be sure to change your status from enthusiast to owner.

Sorry to hear fellow delawarian!! I live in newark, DE. not too many deer running around Newark, but there are plenty of pedestrian sightings!!

 

I hit a deer in my parents 4 Runner. It wasn't pretty. She literally jumped from the ditch to the road and I never had a chance. Since I live in Louisnana hitting animals on the road is just going to happen. I live near a dairy farm and there are huge problems when the cows get loose. Hitting a cow can be lethal. I wish it upon noone. Cows don't have airbags and roll hoops. They take 100 percent of the damage. Hit a cow and it almost always has to be put down.

I hate to hurt animals, but anyone who drives in rural areas will tell you that the only thing worse than hearing someone hitting another animal is a story of someone swirving to miss one and flipping thier car or worse getting into a head on collision.

I have actually been behind someone who hit a deer in mud jump. The deer rolled up the hood and smashed into the windshield. He slammed on breakes but couldn't see due to the deer and the smashed glass and wound up going off the road and hitting a tree. He had some good time to slow down so hitting the tree wasn't too bad. Hitting the tree slung the deer forward and dislodged it from the car. THE DAMN DEER RAN AWAY!!!!

I hit a deer when I was 16 in my first car, a grand 1985 Mercury Lynx in MD. (A car almost as good as my S2K ) I saw a deer and slowed for it to cross the road then sped up, paying close attetion to it to make sure it did not double back in front of me. The next thing I know WHAM, I hit a second one I never saw until it rolled over my right fender. I pulled over to check on the animal and my car. The deer was trying to get up, but couldn't because it's left hind leg was flailing in circles from a broken hip. 2 Rednecks in a pickup stopped to see if I was OK. As soon as they saw I was OK, they turen their attention to the deer. Niether of them had a gun (Imagine that 2 rednecks without a gun) so one of them took out a club and beat the thing to death. Then they asked if I wanted to take it home (in my 2 door Lynx!) A state trooper came by and documented the accident and said he had a buddy he calls whenever there was a deer hit on the road. Guess everyones got to have a hobby.
