Hit Deer
Decided to take a drive with my wife yesterday early evening. Knew the deer would be moving so kept the speed at about 45. Was driving along an open field with a shallow ditch with long grass next to the road. Saw a brown object flash into view and simultaneously heard the clunk and felt the car run over something. Turns out a young deer had been laying in the ditch and decided to take a low leap across the road.
We were ok which was the main thing. It looks to me like the deer took out the air dam but didn't get into headlights or fenders or hood. Also there was a crumpled up black plastic part behind the car that looks like an underbody cover. Drove home and the car felt ok.
Pays to be careful out there. This could have been a lot worse.

Yeah that would help. We see deer all the time and anytime they're close to road you have to slow way down. In fact if one crosses the road ahead of you you have to slow way down because more may be following. The problem here(Michigan) is just too many deer.
Problem here was the deer appeared out of nowhere. May have spotted him with dayglo paint on him but probably not.

I hit a deer in a very similar situation 10 days after I got my license and haven't hit one since. Here, in West Virginia, the deer population is out of control. They are very tame and civilized....I pass them on my way home 1 foot from the road going 50 and they never even move. You can also walk to about 10 feet from them and they often won't break and run. I'm not a typical WV redneck by any means but every December I do automobile drivers across the world service by heading into the woods and not leaving until I shoot my limit of two!!!!
I don't want to hear about not killing deer either...please don't flame on the hunting!
Glad you, your wife, and most of the car is okay. In NH many moose accidents clame lives. You're lucky the deer was small or else the low pro S would have just clipped the legs and you'd have ended up with a deer on your lap!
