Hitting the Rev Limiter. How bad?
Perhaps this has been asked and answered, but nonetheless, here goes.
If one occasionally (once or twice in a year) hits the rev limiter in the S2k, is there likely to be any lasting impact (i.e., engine component damage, reduced durability, etc.), or is the 8900 rpm redline a margin below the real limits of the hardware?
Thanks!

Let me also just add that I SERIOUSLY doubt there are any owners of this car that have not hit the limiter one or more times during ownership. If there are, they probably are still in the break-in period....
From what I've read, the real hardware rev limit is 10,500rpm. Honda decreased it to 9k to be on the safe side, and avoid excessive warranty claims. They have also revved it at 9k for 24hrs without damage.
This is what you need!

Are you serious Thoe99? Where did you get that info from? If its true, that must say something for the build quality of our engines. I have hit it once, and that's because it happened so fast. I was in first and it hit at about 37-38 mph. I hope it doesn't do any damage, it was my first and only time. I haven't noticed any "weird" noise or damage after it happened. (My car is a little over three weeks old)

Heck, I hit the rev limiter every time I auto-X, drive TWS or TMS. Let's see, that makes about 7-8 events a year, 8-10 runs per event, 5 laps per run, and 2 "limits" per lap. I've owned the car for just under 3 years, so-o-o-o.... about 560 - 800 "limiting events" and NO problems at all.
And I'm not that fast, just ask the North Texas guys.

Al

The thing that surprised me is how hard the limiter kicks in. It's almost like someone slammed on the brakes, it's not like other limiters that have the motor bang off of it. The motor cuts and you lunge forward.
