HKS or Comptech?
Got my comptech exhaust 2 mos ago based on the comparo at S2Kdays. Everyone has their own opinion, but to me, the comptech was the clear choice.
HKS: raspy and high-strung. It gives the car a super bike sound. Sounds cool, but not what i was looking for.
Neuspeed: OK, but didn't have that deep chest-shaking growl.
comptech:
Like mentioned before, the quality is great. Fit and finish, attention to detail is excellent. Probably not as pretty as the Mugen, but from behind, it is awesome.
The comptech has resonances at specific RPM ranges. It can be perfectly quiet at say 3.5K and when you hit 4-6K, that deep growl just grows. It sounds aggressive at idle, draws a bit of attention at the lights.
VTEC engagement is slightly louder than stock. Cruising at HW speeds, relatively quiet.
Not one regret.

Damn... I think you guys need to listen to mine,
It does not sound like a "sport bike" far from it. I have heard Comptechs and Neuspeeds and at idle the Neuspeed sounded a little lower than my HKS but not by much. However I liked Comptechs growl at lower RPM's just that the HKS sounded nicer through all the RPM levels. IMHO
Sorry guys, I forgot to mention the Mugen in there. Forgive me, but I was way disappointed with it. It looks a bit unfinished, and simple, and the tone way too close to stock. For $1500 bones...why bother? I know it's light, but I expected more.

I'm quite pleased with my HKS. There is some low resonance (boominess) around 3000 revs with the top up but otherwise very pleasing to the ear. I prefer the howl (higher freq), somewhat like a sportbike but more like Formula 1. The lower pitch exhausts remind me more of big iron (pushrods, V8), sorta out of character of the S2000 for me. The weight IS lighter than stock (having dragged both in and out of my truck) but don't look for any significant HP improvement with any of the current aftermarket exhausts.
On the other extreme the Civics, etc. are sporting tips and exhausts that sound way out of character with their displacement. I don't want to be associated with that at all...

Here's the link I posted earlier of the exhaust sounds from the S2K Days.

I apologize but my camera messed up, so I didn't get the HKS and Mugen.
Enjoy!
