Default home oil change tips?

I am wondering, among other things, if anyone has tips on, for example, getting enough clearance to change filter. seems i read on here about constructing a ramp out of 2x6 boards. can't seem to find it now. what size socket for the drain plug? anything i need to buy other than the oil and the filter? gasket?

any tips or advice/warning you have will be greatly appreciated. thanks

Fumoto valve + low profile oil drain pan.

I change my oil without the use of tools, jacks, or even the need to lay on the ground.

The following, along with many other "How To's" is listed at the top of "Technical" in Under the Hood in the FAQs:

I don't use it anymore, either. It's just not worth the trouble. I don't mine giving that whole area a wipe when I'm done. I've also found that if I make sure the car is back down to level before I unscrew the filter, most of it falls straight down and into the drain pan. It's just easier to wipe off the small dribbles than it is to make a foil bib.
