I used the same technique when I used a nice roll of black vinyl to make eyelids for my 99 civic. Not too difficult a task, but I found that the vinyl was a little too flat in finish and didn't match the paint as well as I would've liked.

HyperDimensions, where in california? If no local ones wanna come by and get it installed, I'll mail it to you. It's like around 40 cents to send a letter right? (haven't gone to the post office lately)

DouglaS2000, this one is amazingly close match. I was surprised when my friend gave it to me. It's almost made for Berlina black. (lucky)

ss,

I've been suggesting this method over the fiberglass $300 buggers for many months now...glad to see another person do it. As you said, it's a lot cheaper and you can easily remove it when you're finished with the look.

Yes it is cheaper, notion did something like this about 5 months ago and they came off rather easily from what I understand.

My biggest concern is that I found a site claiming that the vinal if not of a high automotive/boat grade can stain the plasic coverings on the lights that have HID's as you can cook the adhesive right into the plastic.

As for the color matching hexus vinal makes perfect honda original color vinal that most auto decal shops will have in stock, it's cheap and they might even give you the scraps you need for free. I can confirm that the white and the red hexus match very very well.

There is a guy on one of the celica boards that has been making vinyl eyelids and other pieces for celicas for quite some time. He has vinyl colors that match the paint colors remarkably well, but I don't know if he had those colors specially made or what.
