I'm surprised to see Porsche at #2. Based on what I've read here and from my friends' experiences with them, I assumed they had quite a few problems.

While most cars have minor problems, the few Porsche problems seem to be major, like blown engines and tops that refuse to go up.

We had a big discussion of the Powers Survey last year. I think the consensus was that it is pretty meaningless. Since it is compiled from owners comments that are sent in by those that are willing to spend the time to make a point (good or bad) it is unscientific and a poor indicator of quality. Every time I get one it is filed with the other junk mail.

If you notice, Pontiac doesn't even rank and Buick is #10. Well the Pontiac Bonneville is the Buick LeSabre, and I didn't look for oldsmobile, but most of the olds are Buicks, so How come buick got so high and the other GM brands didn't??? Its cause older people sent in their surveys. That survey doesn't mean anything.

Yes, as cdelena notes, this was discussed at length on the old H-A board.

As one with a staff of professional survey researchers and experience doing hundreds of surveys, let me assure you that the Powers stuff is total crap. In fact, it's little more than a fraud.

So don't pay it any mind. It's not even worth thinking about. And it's certainly not worth even discussing here the ratings they give to any car.

My brother is a market researcher and has the same opinion about JD Powers as Rick.

Without going into detail reasoning, I have found JD Powers to be one of the most flawed info sources I have ever heard, I would say this even if Honda was first.

Well at least they send you a buck! Don't forget to take the money out before filing in the appropriate bin (recycle bin that is).

I agree that JD Power is quite flawed. Quite a few years ago they tried to "rate" the computer industry and the industry booted them out! I worked directly with them and found that their methodlogy sucks.
