Honda announces end of S2000 production
So, lets say that sometime in this century Honda announces it is endng production of the S2000. What will that do to the value of S2000s?
Would it cause any appreciable increase at this point (with something like 50,000 S2000s sold in North America)? If Honda announced a successor that was positively received, would that hurt current market value?
Just wondering...

Enthusiast cars almost always spike in demand when it is announced that production is coming to an end. Even cars that sold poorly, like the last GTO and even the CL-S had people in the dealerships looking for them. I guess these were the people that always said "I'll buy one next year" then realized next year wasn't going to happen. I think if Honda announces that the S2000 is dead, it would be a good time to sell one, especially since we pretty much know its replacement will be a soft/underpowered car meant to appeal to a wider market.
I don't think the price will be affected at all until decades later. The value depends on supply and demand and as of now there are still plenty of used S2k lying around to meet demand. Look at the NSX, it's been out of production for 2 years and the market is more or less the same as it was 3 years ago.

Not much. Considering the s2000 was available for almost a goddamn decade.
Makes me wish they produced it as a limited run, such as the FD for a measily 3 years. Imagine how much that would do to our resale value.
