Honda Goodwill
I know some people complain about Honda service being bad, but I guess it's really dependant upon the dealer. I was checking on the price of the faux aluminum trim ring part for around the shifter, because mine, like everyone elses, has the coating coming off. They told me what I aready should have known, that it is all part of the console and all one part ($200). I was ready to just forget about it and deal with the scratches or remoce the coating for the chrome underneath (I mean after all it didn't scratch itself), when they volunteered (volunteered!) without any proding from me, to replace the whole console as a good will gesture.
I've always gotten great service from this dealer (Turnersville Honda) and right now I'm having the clutch disc replaced for the gear backlash (TSB-054) and I was told there shouldn't be any problem.
Just thought I'd share that, because it sure sucks dealing with the A-hole service centers.

It does seem to be dealer specific. Mine dealer has performed 'goodwill' warranty work on my other cars. The dealer pleads a case with AHM and gets them to approve it.
If the dealer doesn't care, is a high turn business without caring about loyalty or too lazy, they won't go after it.
