Default Honda OEM Oil

Well it's getting close to time to do my first oil change on the S....I have heard (even though I can't find it in the owners manual) that you should wait until about 10k miles to start using synthetic oil...So until then I am having a hard time deciding what to use.

What do you guys recommend? Is the OEM Honda oil worth the price?

I use Castrol 10W-30. Aside from the weight oil is oil. I have always used Castrol in all my Honda for the last 15 years or so and have never had a problem. I plan to run the Castrol until 15,000 miles or so and then I will either use Redline or AMSOIL synthetic. I'm not qualified to make a judgement on the Honda OEM oil though because I have never used it. Someone else should chime in on whether it is good or not.

I would like to use the Honda OEM oil to add to my factory fill as needed. Where do you buy it? (My dealer uses Valvoline.)

my dealer told me that i should not go synthetic until 12,000 miles (i think thats actually a bit long, but prefer to be conservative about this)... i now have that, so will be changing in about a month or so.

Word on the street (actually here in other posts) is that the Honda OEM oil in the US is actually Mobil Drive Clean (not the synthetic Mobil 1). I also read an analysis (can't remember where) that said Castrol 10W-30 had the closest properties to the break-in oil that comes in the car. Perhaps a more knowledgeable person can elaborate on this, but I don't think that you could go wrong with either of these. Don't pay more for oil from Honda. There's nothing magical in the bottle.

I plan to use Castrol GTX as that is the popular choice of oil I find on this board. then I will switch to my favorite Mobil 1 synthetic when I hit 10,000 miles.

At work the bottles of oil we use say "manufactured by Exxon/Mobil to Honda specifications." All the new 02 cars and up use this 5W20 oil and we get it in quart bottles. All other cars including the RSX-S use 5W30 that we pump out of the bulk container provided by Castrol. The NSX's we use Honda GN4 motorcycle racing 10W40 oil.
