Honda S2000 Vs BMW Z4 3.0i
Test drove the Z4 before purchasing an S2000. Z4 is almost a luxury car compared to the S2000. The ride is smoother and more quiet. Engine has more torque. S2000 is a drivers car.
For some reason the cabin was really windy when driving above 35 mph. There must be a way to avoid it (perhaps some plastic between the headrests, which is probably optional).
I like the S2000 top. It opens and closes faster, and is very durable.

I still have my original top. 7+ years, 93000+ miles or rain and sun, and countless ups and downs. Not in brand new condition obviously, but not one hole nor is it terrible looking. I guess I got lucky they put a good one on mine.
I have a 02 with the original top on it, Still looks bran new. I've been to a couple of s2k meets and I get alot of compliments on the top in regards to it still looking new. The rest of the car is in brand new condition also.

z4 is a nice touring car, s2000 is a nice sports car. /thread
S2000 was a raw feeling sports car (even though I drove a 2008).
The Z4 feels a million times more refined but still feels very sporty. The seating position, driver ergonomics are just excellent. I'm a huge fan of BMW interiors and road feel and this car delivers (to me)
This is not to say that the Z4 is a sedated experience by any means. Its just not as raw as the s2000. In a world without an S2000, it would be the perfect driver's roadster. (Meaning it doesnt feel heavy or like a boat ala 350z, g35)

Durable?? That is the last word I ever thought I would hear used to describe the S2000's soft top.

Okay, I have some experience with both cars. I owned a 2003 BMW Z4 in the color Maldives Blue just like in the video above. Beautiful car. The posted Top Gear Video does a great comparison of the '03 models.
I now have a 2004 S2k. Here is my $.02 worth. In any standard, ride, performance, you choose, the S2k will match or be superior to the Z4.
There are 2 major differences.
The Z4 will eat you out of house and home with maintenance issues. The BMW stealership will smile each time you pull in for routine service or to correct the many things that will go wrong. On the other hand, the Honda with normal preventative service will go on and on and on.....
The Z4 has a far superior convertible top. Notice the top folds down FLAT into the boot and does not protrude like some chicken wing. The top also forms the boot cover. How Honda could screw this up so badly is beyond me.
If you want a gentleman's touring cruiser, get the BMW. If you want a functional, high performing sports car get the S2k.
Both are quality cars, I just prefer my S2k

Before I got my S2000, I was shopping between the two cars too. I personally find that S2000 is TOO raw at first, but I'm now use to it. The only reason why I have to give up on Z4 was because of the maintainence cost and I believe pre-2004 has those soft-top motor burnout problem. Other years also has some engine and other little problems. Unless you're rich, I would stick with the S2000 (Which the only problem I have is the soft-top).
