I've seen some Honda's on ESPN drag racing ie: Civic's and Crx's, with impressive track times of low 9's. Anyone know if these cars are using VTEC engines and how they're getting so hp out of them?

 

Built engine + HUGE TURBO + Civic shell + Huge slicks = 9 Seconds.

 

or build engine + light cars + slicks + good drivers = 10's.

All motor that is.

Well they build on DOHC VTEC engines, whether VTEC still operates on the engine depends on the builder

 

they are in the 8`s now

 

Most hardcore racers are kind of hush hush about the specifics. but I believe most disable the VTEC switchover and keep it on the "high lift" cam 100% of the time.

 

some do some don't. There's a CRX out there that runs a Mistu motor. It just depends.

Check out the dyno charts on some of the motors these guys build... JG Engine Dynamics. Some of the turbo racing motors are pretty outrageous.
