Default Honda's fix to torn top issue

I noticed the tear in my soft top that everyone gets on the passenger side. It was in my '06 at 48k miles. I took it to the dealership and at first they told me they wouldn't cover it since my car is out of warranty. After some pushing the service rep. went to talk to his manager. The manager told him there is a TSB on this issue and they would replace my top and fix the issue under warranty.

When I got my car back it was interesting to see what Honda did to fix the issue. They didn't file down the joint that everyone on s2ki says causes the problem. They actually filed down the top surface of the elbow bracket that connects to the joint everyone says causes it and put some touch up paint on it to smooth it out.

The red arrow points to what most people say causes the problem. The yellow arrow shows where the dealership filed smooth and painted.

This is just a heads up to everyone to check this area to make sure there aren't any rough edges there too.

The yellow area is what I thought was the problem too and is the area I would do something about.

For a little experiment, you can put the top full down and reach down in the top compartment and feel the part that the top is stretched tightly over. If that part still has a sharp burred edge, your top will still get cut.

Yes- the TSB would be very helpful for folks who get the "this is a normal wear and tear issue" response. If there truely is a TSB for top wear, it would an invaluable weapon to fight the dealers.

no such server bulletin exists... I just checked out entire system. thats something the dealership did on their own. not all dealerships will do that.
