Hondata ECU - teaser results 07-18-2002 09:49

Just had Hasport's Civic Si/RSX-S hybrid on my dyno yesterday. While I have to maintain confidentiality on specific results, I can tell you that those of you waiting for Hondata's ECU tuning to become available for the RSX-S won't be disappointed. There are pretty monstrous gains available just with ECU tuning. There is still lots to figure out, but the gains are there. I believe the results will be published in SCC in the next few months.

Now, must find more power from my S2K....

"Called Hondata..O yeah !
I wanted to know for sure what the deal was with Hondata, so I called them and here is what they had to say. When acura realesed the K20 motor(type S) they did not tune to the ECU to full potential, for marketing reasons. If a K series engine's ECU is worked to it's full potential the car will be running S2000 #'s. The reason they did not do this in the first place is because it will hurt sales for the S2000, You can have S2000 specs for almost $10,000 less if they relased the upgraded ECU in the RSX. As far as what Hondata has done so far, they told me that they have picked up 20 hp with just a timing advance. They have not even started playing with fuel yet. when all is said and done, we should be looking at around 30hp and S2000 type #'s . It will be a while, probably about 3 months before they get everything perfectly worked out. ......But I have not told you the best part yet, according the guy i spoke to , this should only cost us around $300.00. you send Hondata your ECU they put it on their laptop (no you can not do this yourself) and they send it back you. For those of you who are not familiar with an ECU it is nothing more than a little box with a wire harness of some sort, no bolts , wrenches, etc. just plug it in. Well i will be waiting patiently for the next few months. A lot of people said that there was tons of power to found in the K-series engine, and i think Hondata finally found it.

I heard a RSX-S dynos around 169 hp so with even a 20-30 hp gain they are still not up to S2000 numbers. You can also do the same to the S2000. The Spoon ECU and Mugen ECU upgrade are available for the S2000. I have read that these bump the S2000 stock power up 15hp. I have seen S2000s dyno at 205-210 hp in stock form. You guys will be close.
Just add a VAFC tuned properly and a Mugen ECU upgrade and your talking at least a 20hp gain on the S2000.

That bodes well for the F20C. People with aftermarket ECU's can get big gains out of it. Should be exciting.

It's still FWD, which makes a big difference too.

You'd be surprised at how much power you can get just by fuel mapping.

I'm pretty sure that with a properly tuned ECU for the S2000, you will get a 15 - 20 hp increase. 30 hp for an RSX is definitely possible.
