Just got back from a good drive out but almost didn't, thought I was going to be blinded by the hood flying up!chasing a group of m/bikes,just got up to them in sixth gear when I thought I would change down a gear ready for a quick move and get round them, when I let the clutch out shock horror! the front of the hood lurched up and clatterd against the safety catch thank god!,Ive never slowed down as quick in my life all the time praying the second catch would not let go.The nearest pull in was in sight and I crept in at about 15mph, thankfull I had finally come to a stop,30 seconds later off we went again this time very cautiously gathering speed not really knowing if the same thing would happen again.I knew I had to test the problem in case it was still there, but I tell you I was very nervous as I approached the previous "hood take off speed" fortunatly every thing turned out "A" O.K. Was there a problem? I dont think so,I will just put it down to "one of those things that happen" (BUT HOPFULLY NOT AGAIN!)

I haven't experience that problem before with my stock hood. I have gone beyone 117 without problems. My new hood has hood pins. Maybe you should consider them.

I'd have it checked out, it might need to be lubed and adjusted. If it came off the primary latch it might be adjusted too far down, take it as a sign to have it checked out.

The hood came up on my husband after we had the car for a couple of weeks. He had shown some friends the engine and then took one out for a ride. The hood popped up at ~110mph, thankfully the safety latch caught it. We deduced that the hood just wasn't closed all the way. Anyway, almost a year later and it hasn't happened again. We make sure we drop the hood from a slightly exaggerated height.

I've never really thought of this problem until I got this car. Reason being, I've never had a car that would go this fast (I've been 190+, but not in my car, and not on a regular basis). Since the Stook takes so LONG to get to it's terminal velocity (spedo indicated 161mph twice), these horrid images creep in. Glad to hear nothing was damaged except your arteries.

It's the "speedbrake" feature that only some Stooks have! Just like airplanes...

I've got mine up to 157 without any hood problems. One day, the security guard at work noticed that my hood wasn't closed when I drove in. I realized that I left it open the night before because I was supposed to check the oil in the morning but didn't.
