Default Horn - Safety Opinion

70 MPH on the freeway. The cell phone person in the SUV starts to pull into me. I lay on the horn "toooooot", I swear I don't think she heard it. I swerve and she keeps talking. I'm embarrassed to honk at her because it's a little "tooooot" and I want to shake her out of her seat. Tomorrow, I get airhorns installed. Don't you think the horn is too wimpy - not just as a macho thing but in practical terms. (There are real good threads on how and where to install horns on this board - I printed it out and I'm bringing it to my shop).

Definitely get the airhorns. They make a world of difference.

About a month ago, some SUV tried cutting me off and I had to use the horns. The lady driving the SUV swerved back into her lane and was pretty shocked at how loud the horns were.

You'll start getting addicted to them though, just like the rest of us.

Exact same thing happened to me the other day, almost was squashed like a bug. Horn made a little "meep meep" sound. Pathetic. I was the only one who heard it.

I thought I would not care about the sound of the horn, since I use them less than once a month, until I heard our horns. Any suggestions for a louder horn that is not obnoxious. What's involve in changing the horn?

Mavic,

The Fiamm twin and triple horns, which are sold under different brand names at Auto Zone and Pep Boys are very loud and very sweet and can be had for under $40. Here's my post on the install: http://www.s2000online.com/forums/showthre...ighlight=Triple

You should also check the FAQ and do a search, since there have been many posts on airhorn installations.

The stock horns are definitely wimpy and an embarassment to use. Once you have the Fiamms, you'll be very proud to blow your horn, and goofballs with cell phones pasted to their ears driving SUVs will not miss you!

One of the first things that I modified on my car was the horn. I installed Fiamm twin-tone horns and the step-by-step instructions can be found in the FAQ section at http://www.s2000online.com/faqs/showfaq.ph...?threadid=17409

Here's a photo of the install:

My installation is a bit more involved than Ricks, but hides all of the components. HTH

If you're going to go to the trouble to do the install you could paint the a/c dryer black before putting the bumper back on.

I had my dealer paint mine and it looks MUCH nicer without that silver buck tooth showing through my grill.

Actually you don't need to take the bumper off to install. You can remove the black plastic guard just underneath the front to do it.

You also might want to paint the air horns and compressor black before you install them. I had my installer do that, and it looks a lot better.
