Default hot air coming into the cockpit

Sometimes I seem to have really hot air coming from under the dash no mater the setting on the A/C controls with it off. This is also a problem with Miata's but one guy just came up with a great fix, http://miata.cardomain.com/member_pages/vi...d=137977&page=5

and the posts about it on the Miatforum are here http://www.miataforum.com/ubb/Forum6/HTML/007848.html

Anyway, I was wondering how many others have this problem and if anyone thinks something like this might work on the S2K if there are similar circumstances as to why it is happening.

I have not had time to really look and see if this could be the same reason but I plan to so I was just wondering if anyone else had looked into it already.

Thanks,
Kirk

I've had the same problem unless I have the A/C running.

Unless I have the a/c blowing into the passenger compartment, the hot air in the footwells is oppressive. If anyone comes up with a fix, PLEASE let me know!

Also, is my car the only one that if I have the heat on and directed into the footwells, the driver's feet are COOKING by the time the passenger's are warm?

I always assumed that the heat was coming from the engine compartment, through the firewall. If it is, then the easy fix would be to install some good heat-insulating material under the carpet, at the front of both footwells.

I get a lot of heat coming into the driver compartment as well. It's also what's casuing my dash to bubble slightly.

I have read a few other posts about this. Where is it happening exactly?

Kirk,

On my dash, it's happening right above the steering wheel. You can see a little indentation bubble forming. I can get the whole dash replaced, but I don't really care about the that much bubble. It's not bothering me too much. I didn't even notice this until RHES2K pointed it out to me. You really have to look in the car through the windshield to see the bubble. Looking at the dash from inside the car doesn't really expose the bubble.

RHES2K had his dash replaced. According to the dealer that did it, there are small holes that are underneath the dash. The heat from the engine goes through these holes and causes the bubbles to form on the dash. The person that fixed the dash said that a layer of insulation between the dash and these holes were missing. When they put the new dash in, they made sure the insulation was in place.
