Hot shifter normal?

I've noticed my shifter gets a bit warm too. Never really thought much of it though.

I've never had my shifter get hot or even warm from spirited driving. I think you should probably change your tranny fluid like you mentioned. How many miles are on the car? Have you ever changed the fluid before? If not you may be overdue for a change.

It is normal for it to get somewhat warm. It is positioned right over the transmission which generates heat. The exhaust also runs close by.

It probably wouldn't hurt to change the fluid though.

I haven't felt my shifter get hot, but the side walls of the mid-area right below the cupholder gets pretty warm. Anyone else notice this?

yeah after smashing mad vtec for some time my shifter becomes a little hot but after a cool smooth drive it cools down the shift linkage and tranny is right on the bottom also

Mine gets burning hot when I leave my top down and let the car sit in the sun for a few hours.

yes, the inside of my cup holder gets warm. the shifter gets real hot when left in the sun like someone else mentioned.
