Default How bad did I mess things up?

I was doing a little bit of spirited driving and went to shift from 1st to 2nd at about 8000-8500 rpms and I guess I let off the clutch too fast and had a god awful grind. Everything seemed to be working ok afterwards but should I change the tranny fluid due to that?

Most likely nothing got damaged from missing 2nd gear. But if you keep doing it, then you will damage your tranny. Don't worry about the grinding, it happens to the best of us.

it may happen every once in a while, especially when your not paying attention, or doing a lazy shift. dont stress it, your fine.

you should be ok, just try not to do it too much otherwise you might have problems.

I think most of us have done it once (some of us more than once). If you are REALLY worried about it, changing the fluid wouldn't hurt, but I don't think it is necessary.

I did the same thing and messed it up enough that I couldn't get into 1st gear again at the next two lights. It felt like I was stirring broken glass for a few miles afterwards. That was over a year ago and it's been fine.

I'm afraid the only way this can be fixed is if you loan me your car for about six months. Through a careful program of shifting through the gears during my daily driving, I will once again get everything meshing perfectly.

What is up with the 1st to 2nd grind anyhow?

I know that the gearbox needs to warm a bit before 1to2 are smooth, not sure why (if the other gears are smooth cold, why not 1to2).

Additionally, I think I have 'ground' the 1to2 even when warm, perhaps 2 or 3 times in a year of driving, always when trying to vtech in 1st, then shift 2nd...I never have that problem on any other gears shifting at the rpm caps.

Too funny!

The only aspect overlooked IMHO, is the benefit associated with securing a second opinion. Normally, I recommend that a car be transported from the first locaton (at the owners expense, of course) to my location immediately following completion of the initial program of daily driving. It should be noted that the observational testing procedures required to prepare a second review of the car's shifting capabilities in connection with virtually all aspects of high speed driving can normally be accomplished within a 30 day period. At the conclusion of both observational reviews, the vehicle will be promptly returned to its owner. I am confident that the internal components of the of the 6 speed transmission along with many other components of the vehicle will be sufficiently experienced to enable you to enjoy a level of driving satisfaction inclusive of an enhanced smoothness associated with your shifting of gears that will put a smile on your face as big as it did for for both individuals that conducted the respective reviews..

Remember, we are here to help!

lol, dude I think after grinding the gears you might just need to buy a whole new car. you really screwed up the old one.
