I've been toying with the idea of getting gears for my car, but I'm a bit confused on how much everything will cost. The 4.57 gears sound like a good ratio, but I guess since they're specially manufactured for the s2000 they cost a good bit more than 4.77s. So with that said, I think I'll go the 4.77 route. How much am I looking at for everything: gears, yellow box, and install? What's the cheapest I can get all this stuff for?

as a fellow AP2 owner who has done 4.77 unless ur willing to rev at 5000+ cruising on the freeway for long periods of time... do not do this mod. i have it on my car and am starting to wish that i should have done 4.44

its a mod that does wonders for ap1... but not so much ap2. just my opinion.

 

Yes, for an AP2 I wouldn't go higher than 4.57.

Install at Raceline is around 350 and they dont need the install kit from honda... You will also need a yellow jacket for around 60 from modifry.

I got my gears from kiaparts.com for around 260.

As for 4.77s on an AP2, can anyone who has this combo please share their opinion. I am a bit concerned about the daily driveability of my car if I do this mod. However, I'm not sure if the 4.44s are aggressive enough to warrant spending the money and the 4.57s would be nice, but they seem to cost quite a bit more.

 

4.77 adds about 600rpm at 65mph, so it's not that bad, but is noticable.

It also drops your top speed to 130, but hopefully that's not a worry

 

600 RPM isn't bad at all. As a matter of fact, I think I may actually prefer that. My HKS has a slight drone at 3k which is usually where the engine sits when cruising on the freeway. Having the RPMs a bit higher might actually make my car MORE tolerable

The total price for all the parts is I think cheap for what you gain from them... What really hurts your wallet is the installation labor. If you know how to spin a wrench then just take off the diff and go to a shop to have it put together. But ask how much they would do it either just bringing in the diff by itself and how much with them bringing in your car and stuff.

I think the price for installation goes from like 200-800 from other people's post on this matter
