Default How to check the level of new oil?

HI. I just changed the oil in my S and I want to see exactly what the level is on my dipstick. However, the new oil is invisible on the stick and I can't see it. I might be a quart low, I might be just right. I don't want to add too much or drive with too low a level.

I tried putting a tissue against the stick to see where it shows up on the tissue, but this isn't working out either. How do you do it? How do you check the level of new oil?

It is hard to see, isn't it?

I've always been able to see it by twisting the dipstick around until you spot the glistening oil. Perhaps a piece of black paper would make it more visible?

I've never had a problem seeing brand new oil. It's just a matter of holding it up to a good light and moving it around till you find just the right angle of reflection of the light. Where the oil is, it shimmers.

Put the pulled dipstick lightly on a paper towel, just enough to get some oil to show on the towel. Don't move the dipstick in relation to the towel and compare the oil on the towel to the level on the dipstick. Blue shop towels work well for this.

Wipe down the dipstick really well, put it in, hold it there for a good amount and then pull up slowly and put it into good light, if it was water you should still get a good read.

Oil checking can be a nuisance but it ain't rocket science. I guess it's time to put this up:
