I know there are VIN stickers all over, but how many totals and where are they located? I looked and can only find the trunk and rear bumper VIN sticker. Somehow I can't find the left and right rear quarter panel.
Can anyone help? I searched and can't find anything
CARFAX! Whenever a licensed body shop does work on a car that had any significant damage (and some not so significant) they are supposed to report it to the DMV with the VIN corresponding to the car. CARFAX just pulls these records and lets you know when it got into an accident, what kind of damage was done, and where it was repaired.
There should be a sticker on every body panel....somewhere with the VIN number on it.
Please don't rely too heavily on Carfax. Learn what you can from it, but also check for damage through other means like the stickers, having a pro look at the body and frame, etc.. There are too many instances of non-reporting, lag, and other problems to consider Carfax anything more than one tool to use. Good luck.
CARFAX is not a 1 stop thing. If you take it to a reputible mechanic in town, for $50-100 they will most likely perform a pre-purchase inspection that is like 120-150 points. They will tell you if the frame has been straightened, anything has been repainted, or if there has been any engine work done.
This is another S I was shown by yet another dealer Who said that the hitch was never used and that the car was extra clean with very lo miles
I did not take pics of the rest of the car because I was so @#$% by the lies of what was a "well respected Lexus dealer"
The car was used by a lady with a lawn care biz
First off, if you read the owners manual there is a BIG RED X with a car towing a trailer under it. The S2000 is in no way a tow vehicle. I know some guys have a hitch on there S to tow tires to there track days, I say to each there own, but it's not mente to tow.
There were many maps in the car as well as a large knife and other tell tail signs of a lawn care business. I think it was used from time to time in a pinch when nothing els was available. The sales person did confess that the car was used for business.
I traveled a long way to see the car and was told that...."The car only had 2,500 miles on it and was extra clean, it had just came in and had not been to the detail shop yet, no dings, dents, not a scratch, well cared for ".
When I arrived at the dealer I found that the only thing that was true was the car was not to the detail shop. It had 25,000 miles and looked like it was ran hard. The car was a 2003 and it was late 2003 when I looked at it.
When I told the sales person there was no way I would buy the car, not even if they were in the teens for a price his response was
