I wonder whether at a certain temperature the rear window gets too brittle to survive the top being put up or down?

I've put the top up and down at 20 deg F or so and it creaked some.

Has anyone put the top up or down at 10 deg F, at 0? at 20 below?

Barry,

I think the manual recommends 40 F as the cutoff point for lowering the top.

That is pretty accurate. I raised/lowered mine this weekend in 45 deg weather, it was significantly slower than usual so I wouldn't try it below 40

Barry: It really isn't a good idea to put the top down in cold weather because you can crack the plastic window. I've owned Miatas in the past and this was one area to be very careful with during winter. I live in N.E. Ohio and kept the top up all winter. In the Miata forum you could read the sad stories about cracking the back window in the cold. I know it is very tempting to put the top down when the sun shines!!!! Good Luck.

I think the manual said not to operate the top below freezing temperature. 32 degrees F.

I've heard that, and I've also heard that when it goes lower, this weird white stuff can fall out of the sky and it can cover up the ground!

It is currently -5F here. I suppose I shouldn't but the top down.

Drove top down to work today. It was fun watching the condensation coming out of my mouth as I drank coffee and then exhaled!

Temperature...uhhhhh....45. Hey, this is California! That's pretty cold for this part of the country.

Tom, the trick is, when it snows, drive. Don't stop. That weird white stuff flies right over the cabin when you're driving. All bets off when you stop.

Oh yeah. Avoid Silverstone Metalic, black and white in snow country. Spa Yellow and New Formula Red are much easier for the diggers to find after the avalanche.
