Default how come some people's winshield frames...

im looking through my s2k pics. and i notice alot of people have body color windshield frames. is this year specific? i see ap2's and ap1's with it.

reason i ask if the 2nd day of owning my car my windshield broke, and it got replaced....twice. the first time the guy rushed through it and go that glue on the window frame, and in that spot my black window frame is bubbling up. so i have to go get a repair bill to send to the glass company.

so i was thinking about getting it fixed body color. anybody have any silverstone pics with the body color windshield frame?

They remove the black tape on it. Its just a thick black tape that covers the bodycolor.

cool. i knew it looked familiar. my buddy has a cobalt ss and they have the same thing on the side windows.

took mine off already. looks really nice top down. top up is ok. would be nicer with a hardtop but i ride top down 95% of the time so it's straight.

thanks man

Anyone know why they tape it off in the first place?

They put the tape on there to make the frame black without having to mask and paint it. A lot of Honda's have the tape on the doors around the windows.

before you guys knew it was just tape. Did any of you use lots of elbow grease to get that tape shinny and waxed I did...then found out and ripped the stuff off

Just understand that the paint quality under the tape isn't always 100%. Most don't have a problem with it but there have been a few through the years that had defects in the paint. Since Honda just covers it up with the tape, it's not something they worry about.

FWIW!

I had some nasty sand paper marks when I pulled my tape. No amount of buffing and working the paint would help much. Had to get it repainted at the body shop. Not a big deal except they have to remove the rubber between the frame and the convertible top, therefore a bit of labor cost involved.

Still glad I did it - I'd do it on any S even if I was sure I'd have to paint because the car looks so much better.
