how do the roll bars work?
have you ever think about that?
i know that they do work, as records show, but how? audi tt, for example, has its rollbars positioned higher than the headline, but our cars have ours below the head line. in case of a flip, are we to duck and cover?
any insights anyone?

I wonder about that too, the top of my head is higher than the roll bar. Did the engineers get it wrong? Where they just short?
I have often thought of an after market roll bar, but I just don't like the ones I have seen so far, plus if you ever want to take your S to the track for a FATT (Summit Point) and you have a roll bar that does not meet SCCA requirements you are out of luck.
Anyway, this issue is a curiosity to me.

I'm definitely planning on putting some sort of aftermarket roll bar when I get my S2K. Most likely the Bitterman Bar. My coworker installed one and the fit and finish is excellent. I'm 6'2" so I really have no choice but to put one in....
How many people when they put on their seatbelts will actually cinch them down tightly around their laps and shoulders? Even if your head is below the level of the roll bar, in a roll over, the slack in the seat belt will cause you to drop "down". You will still have to learn the "turtle".
If you've ever seen the in-car cameras on rally cars, when the car rolls, the occupants natural instinct is to tilt their heads sideways and lean their bodies to the side and this is in a hardtop car.
If you are in a roll-over, taking your head off might be only one of many things that should worry you, perhaps it is the least of your problems.

I think that if our car rolled over and our head was bumped, we would sink back into the seat, the weight of the car won't crush our heads, but we will never need a haircut again.

Good one nastinupe1... hopefully none of us will ever have to find out. I would miss going to my barber.
