Default how do you get started?

i find that if i dont try hard, taking off is kinda jerky. While i try to practice and learn as much as possible, i've already been driving stick for almost a decade and would like any help.

getting into 2nd at certain rpms can also be jerky.

i usually let the clutch up just under the engagment point, then give it like 1.5k rpm of gas and slowly let up on the clutch. sometimes, it's smooth, but it never feels like it catches firmly and takes off.

thanx

i find if you slowly let out the clutch in first gear with a little power then increase the power as it 'bites'.

to get second gear smooth ,i normally accelerate up to 3-4k rpm release the gas before you compress the clutch then select 2nd, try and do this quickly. once in 2nd release the clutch quicker than when you selected 1st. (i find selecting 2nd at about 2.5k is just right and does not 'jolt' you.

My 05 is smooth as silk. Is this a new problem, or has it always been difficult to do a smooth take-off in your S?

Mine is like that too. Could have been me though since I just started w/ stick or maybe the last owner put aftermarket clutch. Getting to 1st smoothly is always the hardest.

When I want to drive it smooth, it feel like an automatic throughout all the gears.

Left foot out, right foot in. No different than any other car. The S2000 has a very soft, easy clutch. I don't understand how you could be having much trouble.

starting off = 1) rev to about 1.5K 2) release clutch 3) pause for a tick at engagement point 4) give a little gas and release clutch all the way

I think the jerky 1->2 shift comes because you're not rev matching? rev match and it should be very smooth

im not having trouble. just wanted to hear other's experiences and methods. although i think when u guys say smooth, well, the car is not a smooth car by normal stick car perspective.
