The links were short on detail as well. your explanation was better and a quick read.

Not to hijack your post, but I have a question about vtec too. Is it true that the Integra GSR's have a two rocker vtec system. Is this still true with the RSX's?

actually, that "howstuffworks" link isn't all that great of an explanation. to understand it you really need a visual. i saw a diagram a few years ago, and all the explanation in the world couldn't have matched the small 5 second movie i saw of the actual switchover.

Basically....
There are two cam profiles - low lobe, high lobe

There are also two roller rocker arms.... one the touches the low lobe (LLR) and one that is contact with the hi lobe (HLR) .... there is a pin that is actuated by the vtec solenoid that will cause the HLP and LLR to be joined as one......

below VTEC the HLR rolls freely and the valves will open and close according to the low cam profile. After a certain rpm the Vtec solenoid will cause the pin to connect the HLR and LLR. This is cause the valves to open and close according to the Hi cam profile.....

thats pretty much it......
