I have a new 04 in Rio...the back bumper was delivered with chips, and in 1100 miles of Florida driving I picked up 7 or 8 good size gouges in the front bumper. They don't look like chips...more like little flaps of paint that lift up from an impact as if it is seperating from the urethane bumper...? defect? I have StoneGuard clear bra now.

My S2000 paint is holding up about as well as my old Civic and Accord paint held up.

I do also have an IS300 and though I would have though differently the IS300 have far more chips than the S2000.

No, but I FREQUENTLY use Meguiar's Gold Class to keep up the shine. I also use a cali duster every so often. The dust glides right off:

I agree it is as good as any other - every Forum I am on has people complaining about "soft paint". I doubt that elimination of volatiles is the prime cause of any changes - as I recall, the Acura TL-S I owned did not use a spray process, but it was baked onto the body somehow.

I would think soft paint would be better than hard paint, since the force over area of a pebble or stone at highway speeds is substantial, and since glass pits, it is silly to expect pain not to. Every car I own has pits.

Some paints do seem more durable against water spotting and acid rain.

Lead returning in paint? I would like to see a link to that. Even lead is softer than a rock, so I do not see how that would provide a slution to the issue of pitability.

In terms of smoothness and freedom from dirt in the paint, the S2000 is 2nd only tro my NSX, which had a 26-process paint schema as I recall.
