Default How fast has anyone gone while putting the top up or down.

I have noticed that I can pull my parking brake up to where it first clicks and it does seem to actually apply the brake at all. This allows use of the convertible top. It comes in handy if you want to put the top down while your rolling up to a stoplight. I haven't ever done this much over 5 miles and hour. Has anyone done this any faster? I wonder how much wind resistance the top could take before it would mess something up.

This is a bit like holding your hand in the fire to see how long it takes before it burns.

There is a speed sensor lead plugged into the roof control box under the dash that is there specifically so that fools don't try to see how fast they can go and still put the top up. Cut this lead and then try.

But don't go in for a warranty claim when your roof skeleton is all bent out of shape. I personally will point Honda to this thread.

Facing a headwind of 20 miles an hour while moving the top is exactly the same as driving 20 miles an hour while moving it.

I always found that I had to stay under ~10 miles an hour while doing this or the top would stop moving. A bit irritating, I wonder if there's a way to modify the wiring so that you can move it up or down at any time?

There is a way as Aus mentioned just search I think that Airgate wrote the thread.

I know that with mine you have to be completely motionless for it to work and if you move it stops. There is no way that mine would work at 10mph so Im a little confused.

They put both the E-brake and Speed Sensor on the top mechanism to keep goons from trying to put the top up or down on the highway (IMHO) and because you can never expect to control the "masses". The first mod I've done to my car is disableing the speed sensor (I still have to put the e-brake up 1 click) It sounds like this was done to your car also.

As far as speed, I would never attempt putting up or down at more than 5-10 mph, I wouldn't want to risk it. But after just a couple of weeks of owning the car I already realized that being able to put the top up while coasting up to a light in traffic was a big help. (Damn Rain lately )

If you have common sense then disable the lockout function to serve your purpose, if you don't then by all means leave it alone

C'mon guys...
It takes all of six seconds for the top to go up or down.
Just stop the damn car and do it properly.
Get out of bed six seconds earlier and you'll be fine...

Couldn't agree more. How is it that helpful to be able to put the top up as you approach a light!? Why not just get to the light, come to a stop, and then take 6 seconds to put the top up??
Do you guys also punt your groceries towards the Supermarket scanner before you get to the checkout to save a second or two??

Ok, maybe I'm the only one this happens to......

you are driving along, it starts to rain, there's a light. It's been red for some unknown time but you zoom up to the car in front of you, put your parking brake on after you come to a complete stop and start to put the top up. Well just as soon as you do this the light turns green and the HUGE honkin Pick Up Truck behind you starts to bear down and get kinda angry.

Must be just where I live, but I have the feeling that Bubba in that Pick-em-up truck behind me woudn't mind at all nudging into the back of my car and I just don't particularly like the thought of that......hence the elimination of the speed sensor, problem solved.

I did pull that wire out of the control box under the dash. It is a lifesaver in situations like TKEEDY mentioned. I have put it down going as fast as 25 MPH with no problems yet.
