How fast SHOULD you go?
What do you believe to be a reasonable and safe driving speed for club drives on twisty mountain public two lane roads? Take into consideration there will be both experienced drivers as well as novice drivers - usually lined up with the novices at the back.
I say go as fast as it is safe, and no faster. Just because the speed limit is 65 MPH does not mean it is safe to go that fast, sometimes driving conditions may make me drive slower (heavy fog, heavy rain, ...). There is a reason for the posted speed limit, and in most cases it is not to trap speeders, but because that is a safe speed for that stretch of road.

but conditions pending, the speed limits are set much lower than the the speed that is still safe.. when I took my defesive driving/5hr course, the instructor stated that the signs posted are actually 25% (i may be slightly off on percentage) lower than what the state deems a safe driving speed.
I love driving fast, but as long as you aren't reckless with it.. i've had to pass up a number of runs because of traffice conditions while the other driver still took off and dipped in and out of traffic..
just be safe and not only your safety, but others on the road..
sorry, but didn't mean to squash the fun of this topic..
DRIVE HARD.. DRIVE SAFE
There is a big difference between driving a speed that you may consider safe (+20 mph) and what a novice or someone new to the car may consider safe. If you're driving by yourself, drive as fast as you please.
However, given the original poster asked about club or group drives, there is a much greater danger in a novice getting in over his/her head. It's very easy to see someone take a corner in the same car you're driving and think you can do the same. If you're leading a group, you have a responsibility to see that the group as a whole drives no faster than the weakest member can handle. If you want to go faster than that, don't invite others along.
On the freeway, although it may be safe to speed, I think the smart thing to do is go with the flow of traffic, whatever that may be. Packs of speeding cars tend to attract unwanted attention from other motorists, law enforcement, etc.

I usually drive about 10 mph faster than the speed limit. Nowaday, cars are made much better than the speed limit standard set a while back. I would also keep some distance with the car in front depending on the speed, further distance for higher speed (defensive driving). I would drive faster or slower than my usual speed depending on my mood and the road and traffic conditions.

Drive as you see fit, if you want to be agressive and tear up the road drive up front, if you want an easy casual drive stick near the rear. Have all this predetermined before setting out so you don't have people jockeying for position as you near some tight twisties.
I say that with the fact that novice drivers my be present up to 20 over is typically fine with this car.
when I think about it...35mph turn at 55, 15mph turn at 30-35, 50mph turn at 70...most of the time you should be ok. Typically when I'm alone there are occasions I'll do 30-40 or even double what the posted sign says (15-30/35) And the car can handle it with the right driving.
And again you said up to 20...that does mean that you CAN go slower...which sometimes you need to

The question posted isn't "How fast should YOU go?", it's "How fast SHOULD you go?" The poster isn't asking for personal driving habits, if you read his post, he's asking
How fast should the leader/pace car go during said runs?
I voted for up to 5 over. This shouldn't pose a driving ability challenge to anyone, and most local PDs are cool with that level of speed.
