A gear swap is the most effective way to get in the powerband sooner. Otherwise, More displacement, or some boost are your other options.

FREE mods:
-Strip the car of unecessary items

Money mods:
-lighter weight chromoly flywheel
-light weight propellar shaft
-4.3,4.44,4.57,4.77 gearing
-stroke kit 2.2, 2.3, 2.5

note there are other things, but they are more minor compared to those listed.

It will cost around $1k. No you might gain time on 1/4 mile. The bad side is you lose top speed. You also might have to shift more. Higher rpm at highway driving. This is by far your best/cheapest mod.
