Default how to launch 04 s2k...

Hello guys, my friend just bought an 04 s2k, which is very nice, he has aprox 800 miles to it, we went to the track, which he ran a 15.5, a 15.0 and his best a 14.7. my other friend, in his 96 hb with a gsr engine, ran a lol 17.2 bcs he fkd up on launch and also ran a 15.2 with a decent launch. he didnt do a burn out, and didnt realize that you 'go' on the last yellow before the green. they said it really didnt matter bcs that night they were only counting the run untill after you take off. either way, what recommendations do you guys have? dump the clutch? rev up to what rpms? hard shifting? etc. sorry if this is in the wrong dept, i couldnt find where to ask this question.

LoL, he's basically saying that too much drag abuse to an S2000 will probably result in a damaged diff.

Anyway, i've been to the strip in my '02 S2000 several times and havn't had a problem yet (knocks on wood).

To answer your question, looking at the dyno's of the '04's, I would say try dumping your clutch at about 4k revs. If it bogs, move up about 500 rpms and so forth.

Hope this helps, and don't forget to keep us posted on your times.

lol, youve got to be kidding about flat 13s, he did a 'alright' take off and the rest was good, and he barely hit 14.7, his reaction time was good and if im not mistaken, his 60'ft time was 2.3, wouldnt it be better to slip the clutch at 4k? i know this works for either one of my 240s. Thanks in advance. Oh, what about the burnout? remember, its got those factory 17s.

If his 60' time was 2.3 and he got a 14.7, maybe he should get out of the drag race scene. Obviously, he cannot shift quick enough.

yes I was kidding about the 13s....
I think Sc cars MY 00-03 run low 13s and turbo cars run high 12S......
The fastest stock s2k time that I have seen is low 14S....

I see your an enthusiast. We owners know that if you attempt to feather the S2000 clutch at 4000 rpm+, you will slip, slip, slip until the rpms come down and the clutch eventually grabs (followed by a smell that fils your car for days).

You best proven launch is to hold the rpms at 4k+ (adjust as necessary), and slip your foot off the side of the clutch pedal - side-step - dump - call it what you will. It works to hook-up the rear right away. You'll have to feather the GAS pedal because you'll be leaving two beautiful strips of rubber on the ground.

Now, this is brutal on the drivetrain (clutch and rear diff), but you didn't ask that. You want a launch?
Hold the RPMs up, dump the clutch and hold on. Worry about the repair bills later.
