Update, and apologies to some above.

Today at the autocross, this thread came to mind and I watched my launches carefully.

i've taken my car to the dragstrip quite a bit and probably did about 40 or more runs, never busted anything and the clutch is holding fine. I use Redline also.

from reading what Xviper was saying, I must have launched at about 6500 because my wheels broke free nicely and this sent me flying through the innersection like a rocket. BOY was that a rush. its been about a month or so and I still get eerie thinking about it.

yeah, i launched at about 6500rpms once. i was at an intersection and my wheels broke free, spun, and sent me flying through the intersection. no smell or anything. i must have gotten lucky and did a good launch. i could feel my S trying to slide one way but i managed to correct and keep straight.

I also managed to do it right in front of a police officer. Luckily he was on the opposite side of the intersection in the left hand turn lane. He was waiting to make a U-Turn to go in the same direction as I. AS i launched by him, he threw on his lights right away. he wasn't able to turn to come after me for a minute or so. By the time he was able to turn i had dissappeared up some street and then turned into a driveway for an apartment building and hid out for quite a while.

clean getaway. Ryan lucks out again. knock on wood and may my luck stay strong.

is it legal to street race on your own property? lets say you have acres and acres and you decided to fill it with concrete. what would be wrong with having races on your own property? do people do this?

You're right in that the individual runs the risk of having to foot the bill for personal injury or property damage but whether or not the "insurance company" likes it or not has nothing to do with whether or not it's illegal.

I've always felt that if you want to do something like this on your own property, that's your business and you should be ready to take responsibility for what happens. It's not the insurance company's place to have to cover damages if you get stupid although the policy may hold them responsible. One thing I do know is that I'm damned tired of "insurance companies" dictating to me what I can and can not do.

Hopping off soap box now!

Drive Safe,
Steve R.
