How long did your OEM brakes last?
I know this question has been asked before, but the only thread I could find was from 2004, so rather than revive one from hibernation, I decided to make a new one.
FWIW, I am at 40k and my pads seem to have at least 50% of their life remaining.
However, my rotors develop a slight coat of rust on them whenever my car has been parked for more than a couple hours, causing my brakes to squeal the first couple times I use them on basically every trip. I'm getting annoyed, so half the reason for this thread is to gauge whether or not I should upgrade (esp. since i have a set of CE28s on the way).

I'm at 40k and amazed I have a lot of pad left as I drive spiritedly. I get a squeak when i'm light on the brakes, but they are still fine - I downshift all the time and coast to lights, so my brakes typically last a while though.
An about the rust, thats what rotors do - they're steel and will start to oxidize very quickly - no issues though, it gets ground off with the brakes.
As for upgrading, any track pad will squeal horribly, so don't go that route. I think AP1 pads have less dust, but don't last as long... the AP2 pads are pretty good.

@ this rate, my stock pads will last at least 80k miles, so I don't really care if the AP2 pads last longer
I've heard the AP2 pads dust a lot though, so I don't wanna go that route.
After doing some research, you're right -- I want to upgrade the rotors though, as I'm getting the new set of wheels and I can't have the rusty rotor look behind a nice set of wheels. I'm thinking a 2-piece rotor w/ some pads that I can drive on daily, and occasionally auto-x. And I wanna keep it JDM for car shows, so I can enter multiple classes and have a shot (please no comments about how OEM pads are "JDM"). Looks like probably a set of J's Racing rotors and Endless CCA pads. Does anyone know if J's makes rear rotors?

I don't think that upgrading the rotors will help you avoid them rusting. They all do that. I think that it is the type of steel that they use that causes them to rust so easily. This type of steel also causes them to stop your car so easily.
