If my original goal was to paint it immediately, then i would've just purchased a fiberglass top and then have it painted.
so, you freely admit that, your intention was for the gaudy look of unpainted CF? ouch. Why not just buy CF overlay and slap it on the parts, least it's cheaper and when it fades, you can just reapply.

[QUOTE=NFRs2000NYC,Jun 8 2010, 04:24 AM] It's very simple...carbon WILL fade, nature of the beast.

Sorry, but entirely not true. The cheap crap is the same crap the expensive crap is made of. All companies buy their carbon from carbon fiber makers. I believe the LFA is the only car that actually made it's own carbon fiber material from scratch.

Do a little googling, and you will quickly find the giant lawsuit filed against Porsche for the yellowing of the Carrera GT carbon fiber. You wouldn't say that the Carrera GT is cheap crap right?

It's very simple...carbon WILL fade, nature of the beast. You want it minty fresh? Have it sanded and recleared.
I think what he's saying is that the cheaper carbon fiber (reference to wet carbon fiber layups) have less man-hours put into them with regards to their clearcoat and their resistance to the elements. On my voltex wing, the wing itself and it's wing stands are clearcoated, but the gurney flap (CF) is yellowing since it didn't come pre-clear coated

Why are you such an Angry Scotsman? Be a Quiet Scotsman if your goal is to ridicule rather than help.

No one has mentioned wax. Would a good wax reduce fading?

not bashing HIM, bashing his CAR. He may be a perfectly reasonable, remarkable person. His car for having a two-tone look is... well, gaudy.

and I did offer advice. Paint the CF pieces.

I think wax may make it worse, i did it on the mirrors and it faded really fast.

yup you're right, my car is really "gaudy" with the hardtp on it, i'm sure you get tons more compliments on how your car looks like. You should post a pic of your car so i can take notes.
