Default How long does Honda stock OEM parts?

The simple question is how long does Honda support a model, or particular model year-variant with OEM parts. I have a MY00 that is 99% stock, and I would like to keep it that way.

My roof and plastic window are in excellent shape but at some point I assume it will need to be replaced.

Any thoughts on when Honda may stop supporting a model-year variant such as the roof with plastic window.

Thanks in advance, and please don't say 'upgrade' to glass. That is only an option of last resort.

Thanks,
Michael

honestly its all about usage. some people's tops wear out after 3 months of usage and others up to years. its really how you take care of you top and how much you use it. ive seen people not been able to get their top replaced by honda because they claim its not their fault.

I believe the OP is talking about how long a dealer will stock OEM parts (like at the parts desk). I'm pretty sure the OP's MY00 is long out of warranty and he isn't worried about a top replacement.

Anyway, I believe that a car must be out of production for XX number of years. Unfortunately, I don't know what XX is. On the other hand, if a "better" version of a part comes out, I believe they also replace it as well. For example, you may not be able to get a plastic window'ed top anymore since glass came out.

For some reason i want to say 10 years?

You could go to somewhere (like majestic honda) and search for parts for a civic and see how far back they have them?

Since the HT would be counted as an accessory, I'm going to guess that this part will cease production shortley after the S goes out of production. Only mechanical parts will be required by law to remain in productin for X amount of years.

I dunno, Honda still had a 1/4 panel for my 20 yr old CRX when I called. Not to mention all the other parts that I've purchased for it. The hardtop might be hard to find through Honda parts. Stock parts however will be available for a very long time to come.

Varies from part to part but Honda will keep all parts in production until all warranties on the model have expired.
Honda will have a certain amount of a part made and store them in the main warehouse.
Once supplies run down a Corperate Parts Anylist will anylize at how many have been ordered each month and determine whether there's enough demand to have another run put into production.
If there is little to no demand and a part is out of stock they leave the part number in the system for dealers to place backorders with no ETA.
If there's enough backorders it triggers a red light in the system and the Anylist will place an order to put a run into production. If there are no orders placed over a period of time the part gets classified as discontinued.
As for the MY00-02 soft top there's about 50 currently in the warehouse.
If they continue to get orders as supplies run down another run will be put into production. If not the part number will be superceeded to the MY-03-current glass window softop

I doubt to many people are paying full price for an outdated top. The only advantage is you can unzip the rear window. Mine started leaking after the first time I unzipped it tho, so not sure if that's an advantage. I would buy the glass window version If I was going to put another soft top on.

He wants a stock car, nothing wrong with that. If it means that much to you, why not just buy one now? I don't see the price being reduced any time soon; it may go up though.

Thanks for all that chimed in.

My roof is currently in excellent shape but it will wear-out at some point, and I wanted to understand what I could expect to find in the parts department.

Leester01, very informative information, much appreciated. 50 in the warehouse. Hmmm, maybe I'll get one as Incubus suggested.

Plastic rear window doesn't bother me, and I am a bit of a purist about the car...only mods are Red JDM "H" badges, clear side-markers and an x-brace.

Thanks again.
