How long has your clutch lasted?
Just curious to see how long the factory S2000 clutch lasts before it needs to be replaced? How many miles have you done before you needed to replace it and what clutch have you replaced it with?
Mileage is pretty insignificant when it comes to clutches.. it is number of shifts that makes the difference, and the number at high rpm make a big difference. 90% of my driving is in the city and I have now replaced my clutch with aftermarket. (I once worked on a friends car that was used mostly for long commutes and the clutch looked like almost new after 250K miles, but probably had fewer shifts on it than mine did after 15K miles).
I had a Star clutch and Toda flywheel installed when my transmission was down for the fourth gear fix (slip out due to bent fork). I am very pleased with the change.
My dealer called me to tell me there were more hot spots on my flywheel from slipping and it was just a matter of time.. the DSM had already denied a warranty replacement. They agreed to give me a day or so to find an aftermarket unit .
I called Randy Shatten who sells aftermarket parts and as he was trying to see what ACT parts were available suggested I call a few places including Star. I talked to the the TC Kline race shop and they also mentioned Star as a provider of clutches for Integra race teams. A couple of calls to Star convinced me they know more about clutches than anyone I have talked to before.
Like most components, super high performance and smooth street performance require different design/materials, so a compromise is in order. My clutch is Kevlar pucks with a sprung center and requires a bit more pedal effort. It is more grabby than a stock unit so it takes a bit of practice to be smooth but I do not think it will slip or fail quickly like the stock units.

I've heard of several, including mine, that were replaced under TSB and were about gone. Mine had 28,000 miles and was just worn, not fried. I don't do drag launches and my driving is mixed but spirited.

I had a customer in my car and launched it at 4k rpm and I just sat there and then the smell This was at 4700 miles! Honda did a goodwill replacement of parts only but made me pay labor ( I'm fighting it) The clutch was completely smoked and they had to replace the flywheel as well Honda won't tell me if this is a current problem or what. I just hope that the new tsb clutch will be better! My master tech didi tell me that the stock clutch just isn't made to do launches at 6000rpm So be careful Blair
My '00 S2000 is not parked up in the garage with 5444 miles on the clock (and a completely unusable clutch) while I figure out what to do with it. Honda were absolutely no help whatsoever, charging me to tell me that it was the clutch that was gone and would not entertain any further discussions
