My 05' only has 1k miles on it. I guess I'm spending too much time in Iraq and need to get home and drive it already...

There are several other mileage posts on s2ki, try doing a search (although our search engine is not all that easy to navigate). There is a post somewhere around s2ki that talks about the "100k club" with members over 100k miles. Most of them report being in good shape. I think the highest member who posted in there was at 177k miles and that was awhile back now, so I'm sure he is approaching 200k.

Most people thought the s2k would not be as reliable as most Honda's due to it's high reving nature. This has not yet been proven. Granted I wouldn't think it would last as long as a civic just because of the way its typically driven compared to a civic. But there is a counterargument to that, a lot of s2k owners are more careful with taking care of their car and the s2k engine was built up pretty strong when used correctly. The main thing that kills it is owner neglect (lack of maintenance or a mis-shift).

A high mileage s2k might be reliable for you, but make sure you find one that you can get some kind of history on. A member in s2ki would be great. These cars demand a little more attention than your typical Honda. They are a lot more fun than your typical Honda as well though! Maybe consider finding a local owner who knows his stuff to help you inspect the car. Maybe even find a high mileage 2001 that is certified? Unfortunitly its kinda hard to inspect things like valve retainers prior to purchase to make sure there is no hidden damage. I paid a Honda dealer $100 to check mine but I'm now convinced they did nothing b/c they didn't even notice the oil was low (changed it right after I bought it). God favored the foolish for me though, I bought mine with 2,373 miles and today it has 11k and is strong as ever (I even had the retainers inspected). Take care of her and she will take care of you. Just make sure the previous owner did!

My six month old 05 is at 4400 miles. I didn't think I'd be driving it much but it's so enjoyable. My poor FJR1300 is getting neglected.
