As my first post to this forum, I look forward to the insight that you can give me into my new 2001 black/black. From what I have seen so far, y'all know what your talking about, and look forward to some of your "tricks of the trade."

I do have one question.....I have heard that the S2k is a "limited Edition" so how many has Honda produced world wide and in the USA over the last two years?

Thanks, and look forward to seeing you on the road

Originally they only planned to import about 5k cars to the US, but I suspect after American Honda took so many pre-orders I think they decide to boost it up. About 8-9k Model Year 2000 (S2000) were imported -- look around in the rumors section on http://www.vtec.net because they usually list quarterly sales figures. I think MY2001 is the same track or maybe slightly less. Compare that number the Accords (via http://www.vtec.net) and you'll see how relatively rare they are!!

Honda hasn't formally said how long they will produce the car, but the most believe-able rumor I've heard is that it will be produced as long as it's selling good (probably 4-5 years) and that this car, at least not in it's current form, will not be re-designed like others cars (Accords, etc.) that remain in Honda's line-up each year (because it will not remain in the model line-up). In case you didn't know Honda made this car to celebrate their 50 anniversary (and it's name follows much older convertibles that Honda made a long ago: the S600 that was 0.6liters and the S800 that was 0.8liters).

Here's the latest from Tochigi....kinda cryptic but the table is divided into MY (model years). 01=Jan 02=Feb 03=Mar, etc. etc. There are three sales markets recognized by the plant. 1=Japan/2=US/3= Europe-Oceania (i.e. Australia). These sales figures do not include Europe Oceania but figure they're at arounf 10K units also:

1999 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 10 11 12 S
Jp 725 1445 1550 283 311 875 852 616 552 (7209)
US 1022 1019 760 599 (3400)

2000 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 10 11 12 S
Jp 414 344 245 201 287 479 268 257 324 177 194 252 (3422)
US 539 665 884 642 635 465 413 622 402 245 717 568 (6797)

2001 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 10 11 12 S
Jp 143 172

I heard from an unreliable source it was exactly 2,232,652,964,125 this year. I also know for a fact that 01 or 02 or 03 or 04 or 05 or 06 or 07 or 08 or 09 or 10 will positively be the last year of production. Remember you heard it here first.

But remember that shows cars sold from Jan 1, 2000 to Dec 31, 2000 -- which will include both MY2000 and MY2001 cars.

Well I did a lot of R&D (both a http://www.vtec.net and in the press releases at Honda's website) and discovered these sales figures:

Sept 1999 = 1,022
Oct 1999 = 1,019
Nov 1999 = 760
Dec 1999 = 599
Jan thru Sept 2000 = 5,267

That adds up to a grand total of 8,664 MY2000 S2000 cars sold! But I'm not sure if these figures include all MY2000s imported to the States. Does anyone know if these number reflect sales from Honda to the Dealers OR do they show actual U.S. cosumer purchases??? Because I know not all MY2000s were sold to consumers by Sept 30, 2000!

Looking at your chart and comparing it to my numbers (from the press releases, etc. that I found) it appears your chart is divided by CALENDER year NOT model years!! Model years would look like (where 09=Sept, etc.):

MY2000 - US
09.....10......11...12......01....02.....03.....04 ....05.....06.....07.....08.....09
1022..1019..760..599...539...665...884...642...635 ...465...413...622...402

MY2001 - US
10.....11....12......01....02....03
245...717...568...731...729...?

Does anyone know when the first MY2001 arrived in the US? I still need to know exactly what 'sales' numbers these represent (see previous post) to better determine the actual number of MY2000 cars that were imported.
