How many of you guys drive the S2000 in winter?
Hey guys,
How many of you drive the S2000 all year round, and how does it handle in the snow? I've checked google and asking around and I'm getting mixed answers. People said it slips alot, others say with winter tires its fine, and others say its okay depending on how you drive it. Does anyone have personal experience in the snow? Is it possible and would you / continue to drive it in the winter?
I have a winter beater as my primary car right now, but i REALLY want an S2000. The problem is there is already 4 cars in our 3 car garage, and one on the driveway. I could store the winter beater behind the house, but it might be troublesome, which might mean i'll have to sell it and just drive the S2000 year round. What do you guys do/suggest?
Thanks

I drove mine last winter with summer tires. Don't do it unless you get winter tires. I was sliding everywhere. Luckily hit into a snow bank one time just from shifting around 3k into second gear, the rear just slid out and went wild. With winter tires I have heard as long as you are careful it is fine. I also just hate how many little salt chips and everything my front has now. Feel horrible driving it home and then having it covered in nasty slush and all. Next winter I am going with a daily driver.
I've had my car for three years now and drove it all year round. I put Michelin x ice on my 16's and the car is great. just as long as you drive it around cautiosly you'll be fine. the prob is that the salt kicking off other cars chips the front bumper. but as for winter driving it's realy good.
I live in Nebraska and drove mine during Most of last winter. I've got some 300 treadwear cheapo Michelin offbrand tires and they did fine(I use these in the summer too since they've got pretty good grip so I didn't change tires). Only when there was more than 2-3 inches of snow, then I took my accord. On the days with 2-3 inches, then I took turns without giving it gas on the turn cause you will fishtail. Just be cautious and you'll be fine unless you do have cheapo tires. When I bought my s2k, it had B-rated tires cause it was a garage queen. I would spin the tires everytime I accelerated in summer when dry cause they just wouldn't grip.
i drive mine year round, but we don't get snow here in central cali, so there's not really a hazard in driving in winter. However, i don't recommend driving the s2000 in the snow, it's just not made for that kind of environment, just my .02.
The S is just fine in the winter as long as you have the right tires. I drove mine last winter with a set of Dunlop Wintersport M3s monuted on the stock rims. Rear wheel drive cars fitted with proper winter tires are every bit as good, and probably better, than a front wheel drive car fitted with all seasons. I have had a mustang, 2 BMWs and the S. All were rear wheel drive, all were fitted with winter tires, and all did fine. I drove my S through about 5 inches of snow with no problems at all. I was passing front wheel drive cars that were spinning their tires, going nowhere.
I even took my car through the car wash all winter. I know it's taboo, but there's a really great car wash near me. It's brushless and does a great job. It has a good undercarriage wash. Not a drop of water came in through the top, they give you a good wipedown when you come out, and not a scratch on the paint.
I threw a couple of coats of carnuba wax on the car this spring and she looks good as new after her first winter. Don't sweat it. The S is just as good as any other car in the winter. The only problem you will run into is if it snows a foot. Your ground clearance will limit you. But, then again, if there is that much snow, you should probably just stay home anyway.

Drive mine in the winter unless it's ridiculous heavy snow. I have a 2nd set AP1 16s with dunlop winter sports on them. The car can handle snow fine with the wheels, it's just the ground clearance. Drive it with common sense in snow and you'll be perfectly fine.
