My manual is in the car but I think it's 13.2 gallons, my low fuel light comes on at 10.4-10.8 (In both 00 and 04 models) gallons from full. On this same topic a while ago I think the consensus from people who had actually run out of gas was that there is about 12.3-12.9 usable gallons in the tank. But I haven't tested this myself.

Last week I drove about 40-45 miles mostly on city streets after low fuel light comes on before I filled up the tank, and I could only put in about 12.2-12.3 gallons. With the city mileage of about 20-22 mpg, the reserve is about 2.5-3.0 gallons. If the low fuel light comes on while you are on highway, you can drive up to 70 to 80 miles before you ran out of fuel.

I sputtered to a gas station for a mile (cuttting in and out of power) -- filled up with 12.5 gallons

Maybe YOU can drive 70-80 miles with a low fuel light on the highway.
I'm figuring the USABLE reserve to be around 2.0 US gal. which would only get ME 50 miles or so. Maybe.
Did you notice you use the word 'ABOUT' 4 times in your estimate? Kind of a wide approximation.

I can just get 11 gallons in the tank when I refill just when the last bar drops out. I suppose that means a little over two gallons left in the tank, but I've never been brave enough to push-on further to determine how much is usuable.

As soon as I saw the last gas gauge bar went off and low fuel light on, I reset trip B to see how far I could go before I had to re-fuel. If I remember correctly, that trip B was more than 40 miles when I filled up the gas tank, but because I could miss the low fuel light warning for a mile or two, that why I said "about 40-45 miles"

I wrote down the amount of fuel (accurate to two decimal places) when I filled up that time, and it is in my glove compartment right now. I always fill up the tank until the auto release is on, then add more fuel to the next 25 cents, i.e., if it was $21.14 when the pump was stop, I will add 11 cents to $21.25. I believe that fill up was between 12.2 and 12.3 gallons, that why I said "about 12.2-12.3 gallons"

I kept tract of gas mileages of all my three cars for the last 6 months or so. For the S, I was having between 20 mpg to 22 mpg for most tanks, never drop below 20 mpg and few tanks were little above 22 mpg. If you drive with traffic flow in city streets and use the correct gears, you should get similar gas mileage, that why I said "about 20-22 mpg"

I like to be sure that all numbers I used in this estimate were not interpreted as very accurated, that why the use of "about". If you do not like my usage of "about", sorry.

If your S is in good conditions and if you drive at speed of 65-75 mph in sixth gear, you should get no less than 25 mpg. With 3 gallons reserve, you should get more than 50 miles.
