Default How much shop time has your S2000 had?

How much shop time for "issues" not including schelduled maint. has your car had in the first two years of ownership? Also, how many (if any) defects did you discover after driving it off your dealers lot when it was new? Please describe.
Please add your model year to your reply. Thanks.

On my 02 the break in oil coagulated into long jello like strands which I only noticed because my car wouldn't hit VTEC. 2 days in the shop while they hooked the car up by remote to Japan. No one at the dealer's found the problem.

I decided to change my oil, don't remember why, and had it go Glomp, Glomp, Glomp into the receptacle. Put new oil in and my car worked perfectly.

I also had the straps to my top weaken and cause the latches to poke holes in the top.

2004 model! It's two year old (25 months actually) and has ~32k miles on it. The only thing I questioned was the AC. It seemed to cycle too long and the air would warm up too much. This was most noticable on really hot days, otherwise it wasn't bad. The dealer said everything was normal. I'm still not totally convinced but the AC does work and it just hasn't been that big a deal to me. Total time involved? Probably a couple of hours.

I recently had the car in for routine maintenance, the 30k service, and they called me up and said the AC blower motor was bad. I had had some noise issues with it before. It sounded like I had some leaf litter in the ventilation system from one of the local trees. This is an issue I've had with most cars I've owned at one time or another. The blower makes a noise like a card in the bicycle spokes for a while and then it goes away. That's what my S2000 did so I didn't think anything of it and never brought it up with the dealer. My blower is still quiet to date and moves air just fine. Anyway, the mechanic going over the car noticed something, they called me on it, and now I've got a new blower motor at the dealer waiting for me to schedule a warranty replacement. I figure that will be a couple of hours too!

Those are my two "biggies!" Other than that, no problems whatsoever.

Sounds like "ran the engine out of oil and spun a crank bearing" to me.

actually, the oil pump failed, the oil was fine. Learn the facts before you make stupid assumptions

Well, with a used car that you've only had for 2 months and 90k miles, and you probably don't know how it was treated at all times before you bought it, the oil pump failure may not be totally unexpected. Unfortunate, but probably not unexpected.

In defense of Ek9 however, the "assumption" isn't all that stupid. Your id shows that you've been on the forum for less than a year. I'm "assuming" that's the actual time you've been here? Anyway, if that's the case, you're probably not aware of the fact that the early AP1's (which you own) were known to have a healthy oil consumption rate and the situation that Ek9 described was all too common. There are "many" folks out there that lunched their engines because they didn't check the oil level as often as they should.

Fortunately, the newer models, primarily the AP2's, haven't shown this tendancy. I think I've put one whole quart in my engine in the 32k miles I've got on the car!
