Default How much is too much? (HP)

I was just chatting about this topic with a friend. He just recently test drove an MR2 turbo with 400+ HP.. he told me the thing had way too much power and was too fast..he was considering pruchasing but after test driving thought it was not out of control. i know there are alot of people on here with 400 to 500+hp turboed s2ks. how do you guys handle such massive amounts of power.. isnt the car just " too fast". If i had the money i would just go with a comptech supercharger (with aftercooler) and be happy with 300+ HP. I believe anything worth owning that has 400hp and beyond should be a ferrari or porsche.

Are you talking about wheel or crank HP? I have 350whp... and it is pretty quick, but definitely not out of control. I think that 450whp is where I want to be at now.

The C-West CF S2000 has pulled very very very respectable lap times at Tsukuba with no engine mods out side of intake and exhause I believe.

Even though high HP is cool and fun and what not, with a well engineered car, its not really needed.

i know alot of you are horsepower freaks. but have you ever really driven a 400+ to 500+hp S? or any car for that matter with that amount of power? to be honest . the fastest car ive ever been in was a audi s4 with 340 hp with manual transmission. it was pretty fast.. sorta compares to an M3. with an additional 100 hp or 200hp. the car would truly be a beast.. but i dont know. how many of you guys actually drive cars with that much power?

It depends on what you want.

For an MR2 Turbo (since I have experience there) I have never liked cars with over 300whp.

For RX7 turbos (experience also) 400-450 isn't a big deal.

I haven't driven high HP S2K's so I can't say..

i agree with the OP and commend him/her for going against the grain. its popular opinion that there is no such thing as too much power. and perhaps on a track race, there isn't. but in the real world, i think the S is quite fast stock. a little fast with better gearing makes it better. but anymore and it isn't really usable in reality. that's the funniest thing, seeing 500 hp amg cars putting along in traffic. hp isn't like cpu mhz.
