how my S2000 did in my accident
I have read of other accident threads here, and sometimes just skipped them as irrelevant to me and mine. this one is simply to tell you how well the car is built accident wise from personal experience.
tonight i found out how well our cars are made. while in heavy bay area traffic in the inner most lane of highway 101 south i hit a rather large black suv made by fomoco. i submarined under the rear bumper and our cars struck at the rt rear of hers and the left front of mine, i was merging into the next rt lane when this happened...my fault. maybe i was going 20-40 mph, maybe less.
the car went under the large suv bumper for the most part, i sustained fender, front light, hood (accordianed), front of engine,radiator,a/c,lots of damage and scrapes, no airbag went off, i am fine and i think so were the occupants of the other vehicle, just an accident. it was dark and i am not sure of all the damage, it does not look good.
but the little honda was strong, and held tight and kept me safe, again no airbags but what a strongly built car, and safe. the hood seemed to take the brunt of the force away from me. the front light assembly just went to pieces, the front fender bent away from the car, the hood accordianed so it looks like a Z from the side, the engine held to it's mounts and the air cleaner and radiator and all around it was crushed, nothing went into the cabin. the rt door is bent against the fender but can be opened. i had to drive the car accross the freeway in order to get to a safer spot, thanks to the chp i did that, it started right up and except for the decreased visability due to the hood and the crushed fender rubbing against the front wheel the car ran fine, even idled, but there was no coolant so i did not let it run for more than a few seconds.
i have no photos, insurance companies and deductibles and increased premiums will settle this. we are all lucky.driving a well built and crash tested car was well worth the $$. it is dangerous out there.

Glad you're okay.
The "submarining" is why I stopped winter driving the S2000 when there's snow or ice on the ground... even in a slow impact accident, the damage can be extensive... especially when "submarining" because the S2000 bumpers and crumple zones are bypassed.
It's theoretically possible to hit a SUV at "minor accident" speeds and have an SUV bumper up and above your windshield.
