I have only driven an s2k once at a dealership and wasn't able to really test out the brakes of the car.
The one thing that I had serious problems about when I got my rsx were the brakes. The engine seemed quite zippy for 160hp, but when I step on the brakes, there is tromendous brake fade. The brakes feel very week in the car the i can feel fade very early in braking. Also, only 8 months after I got the car, the brakes started squeaking and never stopped. The pads were fine, but for some reason it would squeak whenever i did light to moderate braking.
I know the s2000 must have way better brakes than an rsx, but has anybody found any braking issues with the s2k? would you say that "brake feel" is below, average or above for a car of this class?
After being bothered so much by the brakes on my rsx, I really want my next car to have at least decent brakes. I expect the S should be fine, but i just want to make sure.
The brakes are head and shoulders above what your coming from in feel and especially power. As for the squeaking issues, I've not had my S2K long enough to comment, but then again I never had that issue with the RSX anyway so I'd imagine it was specific to your particular car.
Very good brakes on the S2000. Very good stopping power and excellent feel. Havent felt any sort of fade in spirited road driving on the mountain passes of the Sierra's. No squealling issues at all. Make your front rims dirty though
The brakes on my '04 are really great. The stock brakes got my son and me through a day of driver's ed, with afternoon lapping, and a full day of lapping (250 miles, driving pretty hard, with the standard hard braking--lowering speeds by as much as 70mph in a very small distance--many times each lap) with no fade and no boiling. After that, I changed my pads (the rear pads were almost done anyway) to Cobalt GT Sport and my fluid to ATE, and the brakes are even better.
I agree, the stock brakes for the S are very good and unless your tracking the car or standing on them from ridiculous speeds you'll never have a problem. My girlfriends RSX has the same weak brakes and they also started squeaking a while back and haven't stopped. I think the metallic composition of the stock pads causes the rotors to glaze up easily, so unless you change to a better aftermarket pad or have them cut often you'll always have that problem
Racing pads, SS brake lines, ATE fluid and ducting will allow you to do track days and have a blast!! When you are ready do some searches and/or look in the FAQ sections under Racing & Competition. Enjoy.
