Default How to store an engine?

Hello,

I bought a spare engine for my S2000. I will keep it in my garage. Can you please tell me what is the best procedure, what to do before i store it in my garage to preserve it in excellent running state?

Thanks
Chris

my bad...meant an "engine cradle"...
it's on wheels and it's mobile...
meaning you can move it out of the way when you need to...easily
and there is no chance of it falling...
these typically cost anywhere from 75 to 150 bucks

you can store it with the oil in it or not...
cause you're going to change the oil when you install it anyway...

Buy a can of the oil fogging spray, do the cylinders.

Pull the valve cover and give the cams and rockers a coat of it too.

Drain the oil and mount the engine on a stand/cradle

Most importantly... get a heavy plastic bag (or plastic sheeting) and wrap it up! You want the least amount of moisture to get to the engine.

Coat the outside in a light coat of oil before bagging it too. It's not a bad idea to put assembly lube on all rotating surfaces either if you're that into it. Rust is your main threat. Seals dry-rotting is the next. Drain the oil. It's just going to sludge up if you don't. I'd pull the pan and spray in there too just to be sure. You can slap about 4-6 bolts back in it to make it easy to check on from time to time.
