How strong is the S's suspension?
I had a chance to buy a '95 SC300 manual blk/blk (6grand) which would have awesome potential for hp. However, the lexus bushings/suspensions is weak and expensive as hell to refresh/changeout. I want to be able to drift the car...so I ask. What needs to be done and approx cost to the S before you can drift it safely.

i believe he has a silverstone set up for drift events.
AP2 S2k's are really easy to drift in stock form. i just drove one a couple days ago, the little but extra torque helps alot for drifting. and somehow the softened up rear suspension helps out also.

The AP1 and AP2 aren't that different that one could be "really easy to drift in stock form" and the other "soemwhat very hard to drift." Did you drive the AP2 in the rain? The AP2 might be more stable in a drift situation, but it's can't be that different, unless you turn VSA on.

GC: I knew the car had a neutral chassis so it would be hard to drift. You're taking something that's engineered to road race and jacking it up so it can drift.
GC: Originally, the car came with a system called EPS, Electric Power Steering, which is speed sensitive. At higher mph when you throw the steering wheel the system actually slows the wheel down, so we pulled it off and used a hydraulic power steering system. We measured the rack from a newer RX-7 and it was almost a direct bolt-in replacement. The RX-7 rack also has more steering angle and no speed changes in steering response.
GC: The rear end housing on it is prone to breaking. It's really fragile, and in a drift car when you sit there and try to sidestep the clutch, every once in a while you clutch kick it, and the first thing that's going to go is that rear end. Mr. Masuda sent it to Comptech and had the techs there reinforce it. The next things I see breaking are the axles. Those aren't the strongest for our application. And the upper control arms look weak. They're cast, but they look like they're made of #2 pencil.
HT: How practical is what you're doing on this car to the average drift enthusiast?
BC: With a couple thousand dollars investment the car is capable of doing it. But being able to drift a car as easily as a 240 or Corolla, that's not what this car can do. That doesn't mean somewhere down the line someone will figure out an easier way to drift the S2000.

The S2000 holds the road to hard??? haha.
you can drift easily on the Stock setup if you are a good enough driver, but the S2000 has a pretty short wheelbase so it isn't ideal as a drift car.
drifting isn't about power at all it is about driving skill.

Take the time and read the article... Good enough drivers hated the stock setup.
i drove the ap2 in dry..i found it much easier than my ap1. its just really easy to control with the AP2...in rain my ap1 is really really easy to drift. but in the dry i found it harder.
with the AP2 i could be in 2nd gear around 4000 rpm....and just "power over" through a turn and it will drift nice and easy.
if i did that with my ap1 it would just grip. im guessing because the less torque. and i have all seasons on my ap1, whereas the ap2 had the stock bridgestones. and im pretty sure the stock tires have better grip then my p-zero neros.
