Hi-ya,

It has been raining for a month straight here, and now I have suddenly noticed that the soft top looks sopping wet, and that water does not bead on the soft top material.

I seem to remember that when the car was new, the top repelled water like a duck in water, but now I am not sure.

I have done 2 treatements with BMW soft top impregnating agent, with no noticable improvement.

How well is your soft top doing at repelling water?

Jonas

I'd say it's time to give the top a new coat of water repellant. The tops are not inherently water repellant, they are coated with a polymer that makes shed water. Your coating has just worn out.

There are a few products on the market that can renew the top to it's previous status. I'd use 303 Fabric Guard or Scotch Guard (if you can find it). I've heard mixed things about the Porsche top protectant. Before you use any of that stuff you should probably give the top a thorough wash. You'll also need to mask off everything on the car other than the top.

There's a very good writeup on top care here: http://www.autopia-carcare.com/cabriotopcare.html

They also sell most of the best top care products.

I thought of doing one of those top treatment products but since the factory service manual, the owners manual and the local service people at the dealer and Honda don't mention anything I'll wait for more info.

I do use the Porsche top shampoo once evry two-three weeks or if its dirty.

I used the Porsche shampoo/treatment. Masking was easy thanks to a member here posting the easy way.

It beaded excellent until lately, lots of recent heavy rain, and the coating seems to be wearing out fast.

Perhaps I did not wait long enough for the top to dry (after washing) before applying the spray protectant.

Next time I'll try waiting until completely dry and see if that works better.

The top also had a better look to it after applying the Porsche product; almost like new again. It also folds better when lowered without the window kinking.

Doug,

I just bought the Porsche protectant for the top and I am about to use it soon. What is the 'easy' way to mask off the rest of the car? I was just thinking about wedging some newspaper between the winshield frame and top and the rest of the car.

Thanks
Mike
