Default HP vs weight reduction calculation

What is the rough estimate of how much hp you would need to increase to equal reducing weight in the car?

For example, if you remove the spare, you save twenty or so pounds. How much hp would you have to add to the car for it to feel the same as removing the twenty pounds?

I heard that it was 1 hp per 10 pounds...I knew someone back in high school that had about 170 pounds of aftermarket sound system in his '90 integra and one day took it all out and somehow figured out that he gained a difference of about 16 or 17 hp from loss of the weight of his system(he didn't actually get more hp but to him it felt like it did in straight line and handling performance, mostly straight line though).

I just stuck with the 1 hp per 10 pounds theory since then.

I believe it is also 1hp for every 10lbs.

This is a fairly accurate guideline-
17.68 pounds of weight removed from the car we should gain about 1hp.
18.12 pounds of weight removed we should have an increase of about 1 lb. ft. torque.

Just calculate power/weight, no biggie AT ALL!

S2000 weight with driver ~3000 lb.
S2000 power = 237

12.7 lb/hp

Losing 12.7 lb. would be approximately the same as gaining one horsepower as far as straightline acceleration goes.
