hydroplaning occurs at like 40 mph right? perhaps if you drove in the far right lane, and went like 40ish, this wouldnt have occured..

I had my first set of S02s with about 10K miles on them. Going about 60 in a heavy downpour, same thing, back end came loose, didn't a 180 (or a 540, I can't remember). Luckily, I hit nothing, but I was facing oncoming traffic when the spinning stopped. Pulled onto the median, said a little prayer, and drove 35 the rest of the way. I saw the tread the next week, I had absolutely NO business driving in rain with those tires, now I'm very aware of my tread depth.

Wow Jamie, sorry to hear about your car. I remember when we visited at the Dragonball a couple of years ago I told you about this happening to my son's S2000. His rears had ~ 10,000 miles on them. At the time (Spring 2000) I don't think there was much experience with the S02s in the wet. I know I changed out the rears on my S2000 with 9,000 miles on them just before Wake the dragon this year so I wouldn't have to take a chance on this happening to me.

Good Luck

glad you're ok, I can picture you going ass over appetite, car all jacked up and people staring. I't is kinda funny, you want to just crawl in a hole . glad you are ok that is the main thing, and also that you didn't have your lady with you.

I get about 14-16K out of my rears, no burn outs, but I do like to slide. I live in FL and we get rain. I just replaced them about 200 miles ago. They were due and very slick in the rain. The new ones are fine. but since this is the 3rd set, I think I can honestly say unless they are almost brand new tires yup they hydroplane. I have tried to slide in the wet with the new ones, and they don't. I have alsways driven liek a grandma when the tires are about half gone say 7K. my .02

I'd recommend switching to S03s, if you're planning to drive in the rain. I have a set on my Prelude, and they're great on dry roads and phenomenal on wet roads...
